OUR PROJECT
This year, we will be continuing the 2019-20 team's project because Covid-19 did not allow them to implement their work. This will be the fourth year that Projects with Underserved Communities works with the Xuchil team. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue this partnership and further improve the mesquite flour production process!
Xuchil faces difficulties maximizing their mesquite flour output due to prolonged rainy seasons, short harvesting periods, humid conditions, and pests. For the past two years, PUC teams have worked to hone the drying process, and although drying is now more efficient, there are still several opportunities for improvement in the process such as rinsing and pest control.
Previous project!
Our project focuses on increasing rinsing efficiency, with the ultimate goal of empowering the team to increase their profitability, impact, and community involvement. We will also be expanding the project to increase productivity in other portions of the milling process.
